How to Cure a Hangover (or avoid one all together...)
I come to you writing this feeling a bit dusty.
I, like so many others, have a habit of saying:
"I'm only having one drink tonight."
"That's it."
"Just one."
"I'm a responsible woman who has places to go and people to see."
Then this happens...

Then this happens...
I always get lazy after 3 drinks - I start double parking myself so I don't have to keep going back to the bar. #problemsolving
This generally results in the following:
Doesn't even warrant a caption to be honest.
Luckily for me, my mum was a nurse and has equipt me with some pretty fool-proof ways to get over a hangover. To me, they're common sense but after my fair share of nights out ending up with mornings looking after mates - I realised there is still much to be learned.
Pre-Drinks
As a poor student, I get around the pre-drinking ceremony. You gotta learn to do it smart though. I literally don't drink any other mixer but soda-water. You're still going to get, uh hum, wasted, but you'll be less dehydrated. You get used to the taste and it's basically healthy right? Win, win in my books. Make sure you eat too. Contrary to popular belief, eating is not cheating.
Before You Leave the House
You MUST have in your purse:
- Face wipes
- Panadol
- Cute undies (especially if you're like me and wear Spanx 90% of the time. They're not cute to take off on your own, even less so with someone else... you get my drift)
- Hydralyte
- Lip Balm
- Spare change (in case you have to get the train home when your phone dies and you can't call an Uber. You'll thank me later.)
Fail to plan, plan to fail. I don't care how many times you say "only one drink," prepare for the worst. If you have some supplies with you in anticipation of a big night, you're already three steps ahead of your headache.
When You're Out
- Water wedge: no, it's not going to stop you getting drunk but it will keep you hydrated. Every time you buy a drink - ask for a short glass of water.
- This is a given but look after your mates. If someone is getting too messy you should be helping them, not snap-chatting them (okay, sometimes you can take a funny snap but no vomming/kissing/wardrobe malfunctions. We only like a classy laugh here.)
- Eat. Before you go home make sure you have that late night kebab. Your stomach will thank you!
Getting Home
- Put a bucket by your bed, along with a bottle of water.
- If you can - take your makeup off. You will thank yourself in the morning!
- Have a Hydralyte before you go to sleep
Then Following Day
- As soon as you get up, drink the water you prepared the night before!
- Fill the water back up and repeat.
- Your skin will be bone dry - put on a night cream to hydrate it. Eye cream too. Have a hydrating face mask? Use it. Sheet masks are my fave for hungover skin. I recommend Go-To Skincare's Transformazing Sheet Mask
- Panadol.
- Hydralyte.
- Breakfast. If you can keep it down. Uber eats it - no one wants to cook with a hangover.
Feeling vommy?
- Sips of water, not gulps.
- A banana (Not really sure why? Mum say's it's because of the potassium? I dunno.)
- Keep that bucket as close as possible - you know what's worse than being hungover? Cleaning up your own vom while being hungover.
- If you're feeling hot - go lay on the cold tiles in the bathroom. So. Damn. Gross. but so refreshing. See above pic.
- Nausetil. This stuff is a game changer. If your nausea wont go away have one of these and wait 20 minutes. (Hi, me here - I'm not a doctor so you should probably have a chat to one before you take this!)
These all seem like really basic things but I feel like I didn't know them when I was sixeighteen. With leavers coming up, keep these things in mind, look after your friends and stay safe.
